Clinical Correlate • Pulmonary Artery Catheterization Pulmonary artery catheters (Swan–Ganz catheters) are multilumen catheters that can be advanced into a branch of the pulmonary artery. With the tip thus wedged with the balloon inflated, flow is occluded and pressure can be measured beyond the balloon occlusion through one of the lumens. The measured pulmonary capillary wedge pressure is an approximation of left ventricular end diastolic pressure.
