LM of rat liver showing macrophages that have ingested India ink. One hour after a rat was injected with India ink, the liver was removed and processed for conventional histology. Macrophages in the liver, called Kupffer cells, ingested carbon particles in the ink, so that the pleomorphic cells appear black. They line the small sinusoids that are close to hepatocytes. 400×. H&E
